I like a lot how different equipment leads to different character ideas: the 30 GP friar is a fine buddy with a flask of wine and a goat, also he knows how to read and write. The 130 GP chap is really more akin to a magic user, literate and got a magic scroll, while the 180 GP Acolyte is a paladin like warrior, silver cross, banded mail, shield, helmet, huge warhammer ...
