Have an NPC say unprompted "haha, you can trust me, guys; I'm not a doppelganger" to the party.

re: personal consumption habits

@Capheind @Sandra I'm realising something about myself. Between moving countries twice (and apartments three times!!), managing personal finances and the considerations for impact of purchasing things for ownership's sake, I developed this aversion to collecting things! Very contrary to most of this hobby I guess 😅

re: Judging a friend's consumption habits

@Sandra I get that; I don't think it applies. It feels like a strange urge to *own* things. He lives with his partner and two cats and is quite social and active; he found RPGs and went from reading a book once to owning twenty books over a couple of weeks.

I am open to being wrongly judging hin (hence the emphasis on this being me venting); but it doesn't feel like I am!

Judging a friend's consumption habits

It's the same with boardgames. He buys all the kickstarter huge games. Very frequently he plays by himself or just resells them. When we play with him it's quite clear he barely reads the rules, so it's not even clear he's fully understand how each game works. It bothers me so much!! I know it's nothing to do with me so I don't really comment this to him. I just feel like venting!!!!

Judging a friend's consumption habits

I've been playing for like 5 years and own maybe three books physically, and then have a shared digital library with other friends. And I don't think I'll get to play everything there (I guess there's maybe 20 books there in total).

This guy BUYING twenty books after only playing by himself with what feels like a hacked on method feels impossible to reason through.

Judging a friend's consumption habits

OK this is a pure venting post.

So a new friend, who we play board games with occasionally, got into RPGs like a couple of months ago; but he's only played it solo using something called the mythic system. He sent me a picture of the books he owns... and he owns 20 books!

Over less than two months and never playing with other people, he bought TWENTY books!!

@Sandra oh this looks very cool. However I'm not sure if it will appeal the person with the least experience; I'm looking for something that is more of a playground for Halloween-y tropes while having a few drinks, if this makes any sense!

@Capheind I'm not super familiar with fate, so I'll have to look it up! I'm not even certain of what type of theme I'm looking for. Very much shopping around even for that. But an old school slasher setting would be fun, I could assign them very stereotypical characters and the roleplay should flow very easily from that!

Hey everyone, looking for a . I have a group of friends who have varying degrees of RPG experience (from some, to solo, to none), who I think I'd like to run a one-shot session with on Halloween. Something with some spookiness built in would be fun, nothing too graphic though. Suggestions accepted! Thank you!

@trueneutralocto I met the other party's revolutionaries and we will do some retconning to essentially align timelines, and have our next game together (actually the first with this group) mid-October!

@trueneutralocto it's the one we just had! We met the two faction representatives and heard their sides, and had a chance to ask any questions we wanted to.

The revolutionaries asked us to Do A Murder to prove our allegiance; the Incremental guy would only share his plans if you pledged allegiance in advance. I chose the bloody revolution path so am totally in the dark as to what happened on the other side of things!

@trueneutralocto it's also fun because she controls the narrative to such a level that you're constantly reassessing who's good or not. We had three very railroady sessions to set up the stage, and were told that on the fourth we would have a very definitive fork. No pleading for middleground solutions, no workarounds, no tricks: you have to choose and the story flips completely compared to what it was before! It feels very videogamey, it's interesting to see it in this medium!

@kensanata I'm mostly surprised that out of like twelve people only three joined the revolution!!

@kensanata well it was planned, kind of videogame-y. She's running this for two groups and I'll join the revolutionaries from the other group. She set this up on purpose and had told us last session this would happen :D So it's not so drastic as that!!

@kensanata I only know this from Lindsay Ellis' video on it so don't have the greatest mental image of it 😅

Our DM threw us a curveball: amidst political strife we were asked to pick a side. We could join either the revolutionaries or the folks who are vying for incremental change. This will split the campaign in two parties who will no longer play together.

I mean. I do so much incremental change in my boring life. Why would I want to do that in my fantasy life as well!!! To my surprise though, very few people chose the revolutionary option. Go figure
