Trying to do a story

I then plan to put an NPC to sell them potions and various stuff. This will be done by another colleague as a guest.

That NPC will / should plant a seed that this is actually the castle of a very good person, not evil at all.

Then it moves on and I will try to make playerz reminiss how they met with the halfling, with hopefully funny stories planned by the players in advance.

Trying to do a story

After the small fight, I will tell the players that this is the big gig the halfling has been talking for months.
I will hint it was given to him by the vision of an evil in this castle.
(While an image of the goat talking to the halfling will be shown to the players).

The players will then have a riddle or ten.
Something along the line of there is 2 guards, one is lying and one is telling the truth.
That should get the players talking and interacting

Trying to do a story

On his adventure he will get some spells, which I will change to sounds increadibily silly (think 6 years old silly).

That halfling will get gather a crew as he fight bigger and bigger criminals (the other colleagues). They are mostly in for the money/adventure than the mission.

The story I kind of want to have feedback starts now.

I want to start the adventure bang in the middle of a fight, to capture everyones attention.
A small skirmish just to get people involve

Trying to do a story

The main character, the estimed colleague living us, will be this happy go lucky halfling.

The back story is that his farm got ransacked by 'vikings'.
One one of his goat survived (we have a mascot goat).

This goat is actually a god of sort.
Our halfling go on a quest to rid the world of people burning other peoples farms.

That set him on his merry way for adventure.

Trying to do a stpry

I have this story I need to tell, but I am not terribly good at telling story.
So I want to get it out there, maybe you can tell me what you think.

The story is for a 3 hour session of DnD (that matters not, it is just an excuse as some people are familiar with it). It will be a one off session. It is actuall a work due, to send off a colleague.

Dear lazyweb: are there any simple heuristics or algorithms to make generated (hex-based) maps make more sense? Like, make sure roads lead somewhere, preferring clustering of certain types of hexes (like mountains or bodies of water or whatever), etc.?

Maybe @kensanata knows?

Coffee beans are not actually beans. Nor are cocoa beans or vanilla beans.

Peanuts, however, are beans. As are lentils.

Aaaaand Mapemounde 2020 started (a jam to make map games) today. It's only 10 days, and the BadTTRPG jam is one whole month, so I'll have to pause work on the BadTTRPG game and try to make one for Mapemounde. I have an idea, but I'm not sure I'll be able to make it engaging or interesting. We'll see.

Anyone else joining?

My game Rusałka is in DrivethruRPG's current Doctors Without Borders bundle, along with some great stuff (Sig: Manual of the Primes, Malandros, Night's Black Agents, etc). Get cool stuff, send money to people fighting the virus at the same time.

The question is… am I gonna actually go to bed, or am I gonna write more about kobolds? If I did go to bed, would my brain let me sleep or would it review existing Kobold Facts™ from last night and invent new ones? Why are brains, y'all???

Boardgame log

I played my little scythe, pretty good.
That leaves you with that 'I was so close, I wish I could do one more turn'.

The minis are good quality, great volumes, very dynamic. I might give a stab at painting them

Why many people don't and won't use open source federated sites

People will continue to use big centralized sites like Discord until the alternatives drop the literal paragraphs of technobabble to explain what they are.

Most users do not know tech well. If they see pages of words they don't understand it's clear the software 'isn't for people like me'
so they go back to centralized sites.

If people don't understand what any of those acronyms and words mean it won't matter that the site is easier or better to use.

There's nothing wrong with technical explanations.
But they can be deeply alienating as a first impression and explanation to someone with no tech or coding skills who's after 'a site I can talk to my friends on'.

Folks know the sites they use are bad. But the alternative isn't accessible to the vast majority of people.

Non tech users need to be included and respected as potential users if open source is to appeal to all the communities it could benefit.

Game lpg

Played citiculture on tabletopia.
We were 6 so there was a lot of downtime.
Lots of fun regardless, I even got a chance to look at victory but didnt win.

Not sure I would play again as I feel the card element were quite random and didnt really work for me, it really trew any kind of progression through the window because getting lots of mid/end game card at the begining just meant 2 turn lost doing not much.

I would rather chuck dice tbh.

It is a solid game otherwise

Went to go check out @vicorva 's books on and discovered their absolutely delightful text-based character generation game, Cats of Mystic Stars:

Please go play it, it was fun and inspiring and I loved it.
