complaining about subtitled videos (as a hearing person)

First: I can hear fine, but I have trouble processing speech, so I like to have subtitles for video content.

You know whats bad?
Videos without subtitles.
You know what's a little better?
Videos with auto-generated subtitles
You know what's worse?
Videos with rephrased subtitles!

The meaning might be the same and it might be shorter, but I read the subtitles to help me process the audio. If they are different, I can't understand either!

@kirby oh my god this is the wooorst! Films do it too and like,, just change the text quicker, I can read faster than talking speed and so can most people, the worst that happens is needing to pause and that’s the same as I have to do when you put different words

@s0 Especially annoying in movies and tv shows:

[speaks foreign language]

@kirby yeah surely they can just write the written form of that language in it, then it’s the closest Venn diagram of who you’re expecting to understand it anyway, if it’s not “important” enough to translate in the anglocentric subtitles
