Still finding it a struggle to get invested in Mastadon. It suffers from the problems of twitter (short posts, no comments), while also lacking the critical mass of people. The later might change slowly, but I discussion via threads is still disappointing. A shame pillowfort.social never caught on. Feels like a better fit for RPG discussion. Was reminded of it again today.
@presgas I need to think more about how to make this space work better for me. I dislike the twitter-ish format for discussion. Like this exchange should be comments on my first post, not a weird thread. But that’s just me, perhaps. I think the format lends itself to ephemera.
@Whidou @presgas interesting. I need to think about this more. There is the technology side. What’s a good functional platform. The other side is you need the social for social media. Without a critical mass you may as well just stick to blogging. And to be honest it feels more and more like that’s actually where my energy should go: spaces I control completely.
@funkaoshi @presgas Blogging is always a good option.😄
Regarding the critical mass, I feel like it has been attained here.
Maybe you don't see it yet because you aren't following many people, but there is more than enough content on the Fediverse to keep you busy all day long. On the bigger instances, the local and federated timelines scroll too fast to be readable. It managed to get over the bump and can now stand on its own, unlike smaller networks.
