Was supposed to help at an analog game jam today but I got sick and I can't go and it's like, really disappointing 🥺😭

Confession time. I really want to work on designing this game I'm excited about but I have a nice new PC and No Man's Sky is just too engrossing rn.

HEY HEY FRENZ on! You may want to MOVE to a new instance, very soon.

Why? :sealion:

Mastodon is a bunch of islands that can talk to each other. The smaller and more spread out we are, the easier things are to moderate. Horizontal scaling FTW!

All of you who fled that one site 🐤 ended up at for likely a few reasons. It was obvious, it was big, and it's where you saw a bunch of folks going.

But it has a long history of being poorly moderated, which means a LOT of instances are silencing or blocking it. Which means you're on the big island that SEEMS like it's "where everyone is", but in fact, it's a giant island unto itself (momentarily trending toward turning into a post-bird-site echo chamber), and huge swaths of the Fediverse don't talk to it, or even see it.

If you want the quality of interaction (and moderation!) Mastodon is known for, move thy funky buns to a smaller instance of cool folks you enjoy. :blobcatrainbow:

What I'm looking for in this Mastodon app?
Always looking to make friends in the board game arena - especially designers and those who think critically about games. I know I will always have a lot to learn and so I'm happy to soak in all the knowledge.

And I'm looking to be challenged by people who are social-justice focused. I know I've got a long way to grow.

Artist commission recommendations plz

Hi hi! I like to make silly from comments and today someone alluded to my need for coffee like Velma's constant struggle to find her glasses. I'm looking for an to do a fun sticker that's captioned "My coffee! I can't work without my coffee!" And it's Velma or Velma-ish patting around the floor for a cup mug.

Boosts please!

This holiday season Twitter fires 4K workers, Amazon fires 10K workers, & Facebook fires 11K workers—all while US Billionaire pandemic wealth increased an absurd $1.7T.😳

A reminder that billionaires don’t create jobs—they exploit workers. Tax billionaires. Unionize workers.

Started to play Welcome To... The Moon!

Overall thoughts: premise is silly (moon keeps us from being hit by things, not the other way around), gameplay is very similar to welcome to with very large twists in the first 2 scenarios we played. I like the brain feel of the 2nd scenario. We'll most likely play through the entire campaign - quick enough to fit in an evening, not crazy hard for us to learn.

Wife and I have been given a weekend away. Pedi's, Art Museum, and Board Games all in our future.

How to Write Good Alt Text on your Images without straining yourself, Advice from an Expert

I have nine years of experience working in Alt Media for educational access, and I have a little advice, particularly for furry artists on how to write Alt Text that will be useful and accessible for your blind followers.
A summary list:

1. Be brief as possible.
2. Do not repeat information.
3. Choose to describe what is most important.
4. Do not use it to circumvent the system.

Still trying to figure out the culture on here so excuse me if this is a bit out of the bounds of what should be posted on the server.

This morning I've got both kids with me at home and thus far we've been pretty productive! Co-designed a game with my 3yr old and we're trucking away at laundry and gluing things to the table. And that's just the tip of the iceburg, so feeling pretty good about today.

Designers of and , do you have any tips for playtesting TTRPGs vs board games?

Over the past 6 months, I've been designing TTRPGs and haven't really done much board game design. I've found that playtesting TTRPGs can be much more mentally exhausting. Personally, this is probably to be expected, but I didn't know if folks with more experience have suggestions to mitigate this.

Just a reminder about Mastodon.

Try not to directly upload videos here.
You have to remember that these videos have to be stored on the server that you're hosted on.

This would also eat up on available bandwidth, storage and memory resources of said servers and slow them down. Which would force server hosts to upgrade at a substantial cost.

Suggested idea...

Upload to Peertube, Vimeo or other video streaming services and share the link to the video here instead.

shopping - affinity publisher v2?

Those of you who use Affinity Publisher are you going to be upgrading to v2 for the deal that they have going? I haven't quite looked at all of what they have going on but do you think it'll be worth it?

Tabletop Social announcement

We will likely close the invite registration at some point in the next 6-8 hours.

We are now over 3k people, and that has changed the dynamic a fair bit.

To ensure we can moderate and retain some of the culture we have had for the last 4 years, we need a quick break of new joiner.

We also need to think about capacity planning both in the sense of getting more moderators in to deal with reports, maybe increase the server size to deal with the increased activity.

Hey Y'all! I'm Adam - I design puzzles and card games mostly. I quite love board games and the social interactions around them - really community is pretty important to me.

I also do gardening, am interested in community development, biking, reading scifi/fantasy, and some writing.

Hoping to post some game dev stuff here soon. I've got a few projects that I never seem to have time to work on. 😅
