Hi folks - My name is Scott Starkey, and I'm an occasional and illustrator. I'm addicted to conventions.

Here's my BGG cred: boardgamegeek.com/boardgamedes

Aside from game stuff, my day job is a developer. I am a part-time & (i.e. a probably fake mind-reader); I speak ; I'm a . My favorite candy is a bar.

I found these paperback books at the local library book sale for 50 cents each. I couldn't NOT buy them!

I haven't played Monopoly for many years now. The last game was with three housemates at university. One housemate was winning and really enjoying his triumph over the rest of us. So I suggested to my other two housemates that we form a cooperative. We would let each other off rents on our properties. The standards rents would apply to anyone not in the coop. And you could leave the coop if you wanted. None of this is forbidden in the rules of Monopoly because it has little market regulation.

Heading out to ProtospielOnline! I hope to play some of your games there! I'll also be reviewing sell sheets.

Protospiels are a fantastic resource for getting your game playtested by developers (peer testing).

Stop by for a chat! protospiel.online/

I'll be at @protospielo on the 14th and 15th!

I'll be playtesting a midweight abstract game called Cycle and my big political wargame, PACT, both of which are in the "looking for publishers" phase. Come by and give me some suggestions!

I played some awesome and diverse games between Christmas & New Years: including Menara (we won on "Easy"), Black Spy, Return to Dark Tower (we won), and Pandemic Legacy Season 0 (we succeeded most of the objectives in June).

May your holiday season be as joyous and hopeful as I had, exactly 41 years ago in 1981, unwrapping Dungeons & Dragons stuff on Christmas Eve.

I have 5+ years of experience, and more of general , so I'm hopeful I can find something relatively quickly. I would prefer , but that is not necessarily a dealbreaker. If you hear of something, please let me know!

I'm sorry to say that I lost my job earlier today. I really cherish my time with CataBoom, but sadly one of the curses of working with a small upstart company is sometimes they have to expand or shrink quickly to stay competitive. I got stuck on the short end of that equation.

Game release let down

So many people are sharing their excitement over getting the Kabuto Sumo: Total Mayhem expansion over on the bird site, which is awesome! Unfortunately I am not over there, so it’s really killing my ability to join in the celebration with them properly…

I know it’s a first world problem to the extreme, but I haven’t been at any of the cons where it released so social media celebrations are all I’ve had so far… now I am losing that… 😢

Self explanatory statements below. I have a theory on this.
Please boost if you take part

I don't know who needs to hear this but

The postal service exists to deliver letters and parcels to people
Not to make money for shareholders

The transport system exists to move people to where they need to go
Not to make money for shareholders

The water, gas, and electricity supplies exist to provide people vital utilities
Not to make money for shareholders

The healthcare system exists to ensure (and that's ENsure, not INsure) the health of the population
Not to make money for shareholders

Shareholders in vital public services are a vampiric drain on those services

Capitalism is a disease

You’re not the product anymore. You’re a community member in your host’s ad-free server they pay for. There’s no venture capitalist payday coming for them. Everything you do here costs your host a little bit of money. Find out how you can chip in.

I just set up my first filter for Mastodon:

Trying to block "AI art" (but all one word) as a keyword. As a published , I have problems if an AI is cutting and pasting my art and passing it off as its own. And I'll probably never know if it sneaks a little a little of my stuff into a commercial venture.*

AI art is closer to a collage than illustration.

[Footnote: I might be OK with it if tools attributed the images they used to create the new image. That might be cool.]

I had a weird interaction with eBay yesterday. Somebody used my Gmail account to sign up for #eBay, and immediately used it to purchase about $1000 of gold bullion, silver bars, and other precious metals.

They didn't use my credit card, but some third parties'. They only way I knew about it was this person tried to set up fingerprint scanning in the app. I never got any notification of signing up for an account or anything like that from eBay.
