@ossifog it’s like BGG. You have to realize the words attached to the scale.

The Goodreads official rating system is: 1 star - didn't like it. 2 stars – it was OK. 3 stars – liked it. 4 stars – really liked it.

Was pondering a paperless, diceless TTRPG system after randomly RPing in the Gen Con wrist strap line earlier this year. So far I’ve come up with this: player guesses a number set by GM. Success is being within 3 of the number. Difficulty is set by GM.

“Dice” range based on the challenge set by GM.
Easy: d4
You Can Certainly Try: d12

Advantage or disadvantages created by narrative result in ‘the roll’ being on lower or higher dice.

@mattthr it impacts the GMs who buy most of the materials for their players. If you enjoyed Sina Una, Animal Adventures, if you downloaded a quick doc off Drivethru to make your bar fight more dynamic, if you grabbed extra stuff to flesh out Waterdeep in a new setting — all of that gets threatened. If the third parties are shouting ‘help us’ , listen.

@jamesgraham @mattthr I’d be shocked if there wasn’t a shipping delay from overseas. No company with big licenses wants to miss holiday shopping.

@zhoekstra report bullying. If folks agree to a specific play time then they need to abide by it.

Found time to bake those infamous cookies from the book announcement. Pretty good! I think I will stick with my favorite spice cookie for more oomph, though.

@greylurk thank you! I have two aero gardens - no where near this level of complicated. This is fascinating.

Books

@mattthr Every book is large print, now, in a dyslexic friendly font. That alone justifies a tablet or eReader.

@nickferris got around 150 and worked our way down to 100. The rule is the Kallax must abide. As DnD snuck onto the shelf we are holding around 110 but need to lose 3 from being stacked on top. 😇

Puns

Today I invented a new way of steeping flavoured leaves in hot water. The result isn't that nice, but it is something of a novel tea.

Working on getting a table together. Remembering when I started GMing and I got this as a moral booster / lucky charm.

and figurine painters - advice?

I just got my second set of the fancy 3d dragons from in and I am now very nervous to actually try and paint them.

I'm guessing my standard mini paint-on white primer from Vallejo will work well enough? Humidity is always too unreliable to use spray outdoors, in my area.

Health and Caffeine

When I got off of caffeine no one warned me that should I dare to have a single cup again, it would wreck me. I have not had a head ache like this in years.

Apparently I’m team 99.5% decaf for life. The magical bean juice is now my mortal enemy.

re: Physically broken board game

@PhilGross Oh no! That's miserable. There are some advice threads on Board Game Geek on how to repair broken boards, so maybe it could be mended in a way that is at least not aesthetically displeasing.

@rhornbek played Star Wars Outer Rim. Stay for the fan service and flavor full mission text. Leave due to it being akin to AD&D Choose Your Own Advenrure books - you made a choice - dice hate you - you lose the adventure not due to bad choices, but bad dice. In DnD I accept bad rolls = good narrative. In a board game, if rolling a d8 30 times is what it takes to win, for the most part? Much less so.

I've only tried to get VIG for a decade, but hey, sometimes you got to get lucky, right? :D
