Pinned toot

Realized I never did one of these! I'm Alex, 28 years old, and I'm pretty new to TTRPGs. I tried Mutant Year Zero a couple of years ago but wasn't hooked. But last summer I got into D&D with some friends and since then free time has mostly been about that! I used to play some MtG a while back, but don't know any players now.

Other than playing D&D I like games in general. I also greatly enjoy writing (a wide range of genres), and I try to write a bit every day.

I've not been on here for a while (and I've been too busy to DM) but today I DM'ed my 23rd session of Curse of Strahd and I'll never cease to be amazed by the shit my players pull.
Today our light cleric went from lawful good to neutral evil. And it was just a downtime episode!

re: Curse of Strahd spoilers

Now we won't have time to play for ~2 weeks since I'm gonna have a terrible work schedule (so looking forward to 9 days of work in a row without a break). At least I'm free until Tuesday, so I'll take my chance to relax now. And try to plan a bit more for next session because I'm not 100% sure where I'm going with this Strahd encounter. With work being so busy I've had to improvise a lot more than I'm comfortable with, but that's just how things are right now.

re: Curse of Strahd spoilers

They all rolled history checks to see if they actually could tell it was him, only one character actually made the connection (going back to the statue in Death House, the coins with Strahd, and such things). And even then Apollo (or well, Cami who's playing Apollo) went "Wait so it IS Strahd??? IT REALLY IS STRAHD?!" and we pretty much ended with me confirming that her character is pretty damned sure it's Strahd. Their faces were great.

re: Curse of Strahd spoilers

In the end he was just playing around with them, not aiming to kill them (yet). But when the party managed to kill the tree blight, he decided that there was no point to it any longer. So we more or less ended with a cliffhanger of Strahd appearing, clapping his hands and going "I think that's enough for now, don't you think?". My players have been joking so much about strangers being Strahd that they couldn't grasp it was actually him.

re: Curse of Strahd spoilers

Greater Invisibility combined with legendary actions made them so confused cause they knew SOMEONE was there, just not who or how they were attacking. Like I had him use Blight on Linus (the cleric) on his actual round, and then at the end of Aaron's (the paladin's) round he used a legendary action to move and make an unarmed strike. The fact that this invisible force attacked them more than once on a single round had them confused.

Curse of Strahd spoilers

I've not been here a lot lately because I'm busy with work, but I still manage to DM every other week or so! Today we finished our 21st session of Curse of Strahd, and the players took on Yester Hill. Strahd ended up joining the battle to protect the druids until the tree blight entered the fray. They only saw Strahd from a distance, and then he went invisible so they didn't know it was him. But it was GREAT messing with them during battle with Strahd being invisible.

Curse of Strahd spoilers

My group headed to Argynvostholt today. I’ve now killed Aaron, the paladin, a second time. First it was vampire spawn, this time it was getting stabbed by revenants when he was on the ground. Well, the cleric has cast Gentle Repose on him so his corpse is at the very least fresh... 😬

I'm so glad to be back to playing D&D with my Canadian (and the one American) friends!
We've not played since November, and I have missed our characters and their adventures!

It's officially 2019 here so... happy new year!!
2018 has been pretty crap but friends, D&D, and my wonderful partner made it bearable.
For 2019 I'm hoping to asap find a new job that doesn't chip away at my mental health the way my current one does, and to hopefully see my partner in person again! ...and to find some more time for D&D again, because I'm in way too many campaigns and have way too little free-time with my schedule mostly having shifts until midnight.

Today I joined another D&D campaign so now I’m part of 3 (and a half) campaigns, and DMing one. I’m not sure how the hell I’ll have time for it all since I now have work as well, but it’ll work out somehow! I hope...

god my partner is going to hospital for chest pains and here I am on the other side of the planet powerless to do anything but to text my support and ask to be updated if it's possible.

re: Mental health issues, anxiety

Right now I'm trying to just hang on until Friday cause after that I'll have 5 days off... then I have 2 days of work, and about 4 more days off (only reason why I'm looking forward to Christmas and New Years honestly).

Mental health issues, anxiety

Man I'm glad we cancelled D&D this week cause I'm drained.
Today a customer called me disgusting and I got a novel of insults thrown at me simply for explaining that I couldn't help until the customer had verified their account. Man I hope I can last at this workplace. I'm anxious before work, I'm anxious during work, and I'm axious after work. And I'm anxious during weekends thinking about work. I've got a hard time sleeping because of constant anxiety.

someone should take photoshop away from me because i want to add even more things to it

Curse of Strahd break

So my group is taking a Christmas break because I'm busy with work next week, and perhaps after that.
Made this masterpiece to make it clear to everyone that we're on break 😬

Regarding Commissions, Please Boost

I will be closing commissions for the year in less then a week! Then I'll be opening them up again in the new year with new prices, so if you want a commission now is a great time!

Drinking, family issues

Going to mom's place = quiet Christmas which I like, but she'll most likely drink and I feel uncomfortable when she gets drunk. I'll have to sit and listen to the same things again and again. It'll all be about her.

Going to dad's place = constant dread of "when is my father going to cause a fight to break out thanks to shitty opinions".

My Christmas options are anxiety, anxiety or loneliness but less anxiety. Man. I wish I could teleport to my partner in Canada.

But now follow a bit of a Christmas break since I'm going to have work until ~7PM most weekdays the upcoming weeks. And then there's the Christmas party with my friends. And then... uh, well. We'll see. Might just spend Christmas on my own. I can plan a bit for our future sessions, I suppose. Not sure I have the energy to go visit my home town...

I'm glad my players are all the kind of people who doesn't get super hung up on rules. We're all okay with bending rules, and making them up at times. I allow them to do things that probably shouldn't be allowed at times, cause honestly? It's our game. We're doing it to have a fun time together, with a LOT of focus on RPing. And I love sitting back and letting them play out long scenes.
God thinking about it makes all teary-eyed cause I feel so lucky to have this group.
